The original company was founded by Karl Maybach. the son of Wilhelm Maybach, who invented the first Mercedes. Some people were surprised when the Maybach brand returned in the form of two closely related, all-new ultraluxury sedans. Ostensibly a product of DaimlerChrysler, Mercedes-Benz's parent company, the modern-day Maybach is actually considered a make of its own. Maybach sedans come in two sizes: the regular Type 57 and the extended-length Type 62. Each model designation indicates the car's length in meters: 5.73 for the Type 57 and 6.17 for the Type 62, which is called the longest production automobile in the world. Special technical features include an electronic braking system and Airmatic Dual Control air suspension. For 2005, an optional Business Package includes a wireless internet router and a color printer. Rear parking assist is now available. New standard equipment includes Robbe & Berking beverage flutes and a handcrafted Dunhill Collection umbrella. Sirius Satellite Radio comes with a lifetime subscription. It takes nearly five months to construct and deliver a Maybach. Mercedes-Benz dealers must sign separate agreements to sell them. Available accessories include a luggage set, a sterling silver champagne goblet, a humidor, a golf bag and a fluffy travel rug. A television with a 9.5-inch TFT flat screen includes a DVD player.
