Car Facts 2000 DODGE DAKOTA Fun Facts

The Dakota is a mid-size pickup truck from DaimlerChrysler's Dodge brand. It was introduced in 1987 alongside the redesigned Dodge Ram 50. The Dakota has always been sized above the compact (Ford Ranger, Chevrolet S-10) and below the full-sized (Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado) pickups and Dodge's own Ram. It is a conventional design with body-on-frame construction and leaf spring/live axle rear end. The Dakota has also long been the only midsize pickup with an optional V8 engine. One notable feature was the Dakota's rack and pinion steering, a first in work trucks.

The second-generation Dakota (body code DN) ran from 1997 to 2004; its “baby Ram” look fit the times, and it switched from being called a mid-sized pickup to “the most capable compact pickup.”

In 2005, the "Club Cab" with forward-facing rear seats and rear-hinged doors became Dodge Dakota's standard cab offering.

The Dodge Dakota, introduced in 1983, was the industry's first mid-sized pickup truck.
