Car Facts 2003 NISSAN XTERRA Fun Facts

The Nissan Xterra is a compact SUV based on the Nissan F-Alpha platform as of the 2005 model year, and shares many similarities with the Nissan Frontier pickup. The Xterra is slotted below the Pathfinder in Nissan's lineup. All Xterras are currently built in Smyrna, Tennessee and São José dos Pinhais, Brazil. It is called the Nissan Roniz in Iran where it is also built under licence by Pars Khodro (see also parskhodroservice.com, and is built and sold in China as the Paladin. The Xterra was named after the XTERRA series of off-road triathlon races. Nissan was the race series' primary sponsor until the end of 2006. The Xterra was originally introduced in North America in the 2000 model year and was marketed as a simple, but capable SUV with the slogan Everything you need, nothing you don't. In 2005, the Xterra was redesigned on a new platform shared by the Nissan Titan and Nissan Frontier. Although appearing smaller than the first generation, the new model is larger in all dimensions.

From the beginning, Xterra has differed from many other similarly sized SUVs with its truck-based (rather than car-based) platform, a credential that adds to its proven off-road capabilities. The 2006 Xterra features a modified version of the F-Alpha platform developed for use with the full-size Nissan Titan pickup and Armada SUV. The 2006 Xterra will be offered in a new entry-level X model in addition to the S, Off-Road and SE models. Each is offered with standard 4.0-liter V6 and a choice of manual or automatic transmissions (SE only automatic) and in 4WD or 2WD configurations.
