Car Facts 2009 SUBARU LEGACY Fun Facts

The Subaru Legacy is a mid-size car introduced by the Japanese manufacturer Subaru in February 1989 as a larger, upscale companion to the company's Leone/Loyale (which was known, in some countries, by its trim level only, e.g. Subaru GL). The Legacy debuted a newly designed engine to replace the aging EA series; the new EJ series. An all-wheel drive system was also available. The Legacy launched in the USA for model year 1990. In Australia, it instead bears the name Liberty (out of respect for Australia's Legacy organisation, which aids veterans and their families during and after wars). As of the 2008 model year, all Legacys are sedans and all Outbacks are wagons.

March 14, 2005 marked the sale of the three-millionth Subaru Legacy.

The Subaru Legacy mid-sized sedan was the Car of the Year in both 1994 and 1998, according to "Wheels" magazine.
