2006 CHEVROLET HHR Fun Facts
The Chevrolet HHR (for Heritage High Roof) is a small retro-look compact crossover SUV launched by the Chevrolet division of American automaker General Motors at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2006 model. Designed to slot below the Equinox, it shares the GM Delta platform with the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5 and Saturn ION. It is a competitor to the Chrysler PT Cruiser, though a bit larger. It jointly replaced the Tracker as Chevrolet's smallest sport utility vehicle. It has recently become available in a panel truck style, resembling an old Sedan Delivery. The vehicle's design is inspired by the mid-1940s Chevrolet cars and trucks, with large, square fender flares and a hemispherical grille. The design of the HHR has been credited to Brian Nesbitt, who was a former designer at Chrysler, where he was the lead designer of the PT Cruiser. Nesbitt was recruited by GM to join its design staff, and served for a time as the chief designer of the Chevrolet brand. The HHR has a large cargo-carrying capacity for a car of its size, with a flat-load floor and fold-flat front passenger seat. It is available with three trim levels, called LS, LT and 2LT. The LT trim level comes equipped with a standard MP3-capable radio and power driver's seat.

With distinctive styling, a spacious, easily configurable interior and economical, Ecotec four-cylinder engine-based powertrains, the 2006 Chevy HHR suits any lifestyle. The HHR's unique design fuses elements of the 1949 Chevy Suburban – the original utility vehicle – and the SSR roadster. It is built on the same solid platform as the new Chevy Cobalt. An overall length of 176.2 inches(4,475 mm)and a cargo capacity of up to approximately 63.1cubic feet (1,787 L) give the five-passenger HHR easy-to-maneuver dimensions and room for just about any lifestyle interest. Its reconfigurable and convenient storage compartments accommodate everything from groceries to surfboards. According to Motor Trend magazine (September 2006 issue), General Motors will build a SS version of the HHR for the 2008 model year. The engine will most likely be the same 260 hp, 2.0 L turbocharged I4 that will be in the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Red Line.
