Car Facts 2002 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC Fun Facts

The Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a mid-size sport utility vehicle with a pickup truck bed sold mostly in North America. The Sport Trac is based on the Ford Explorer SUV and has been built by the Ford Motor Company since 2001. This pickup truck slots between the Ford Ranger and Ford F-Series. During the first years it sold in the US, the waiting list grew to over a 3 month wait. A new Sport Trac was released early 2006 for the 2007 model year. While still based on Explorer underpinnings, the "Explorer" has now been dropped from the name. Unlike its predecessor, it features the 4.6 L Modular V8 engine as an option, and is based on the new, larger fourth generation Explorer. The new Sport Trac's greatest improvements are an all-new reinforced frame and four-wheel independent suspension. AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control is standard in the Sport Trac. The Sport Trac is currently available in only two trim levels (which is half of what the Explorer has). There is no base model and no moderate luxury model, like with the Explorer. There is a mid-class model, the XLT, and a high-luxury model called the Limited. Both Limited and XLT are available on Explorer.
