Kentucky Auto Insurance

"Being insured is the law in Kentucky"

Consumers have questions and so did we...

• What are the types of insurance coverage and what are the amounts required for the state of Kentucky.

• What does the law say pertaining to minimum insurance coverage in Kentucky?

Kentucky has strict mandatory policies about vehicle registration, insurance coverage minimums, and financial responsibilities pertaining to every vehicle owned, operated, or parked on its roadways. In Kentucky, you can obtain your learner’s permit at sixteen and your restricted license at sixteen and a half, with a full license at seventeen.

To adhere to Kentucky's auto insurance rules, you must...

In Kentucky, you must maintain a current insurance policy with a registered insurance company or broker carrying the minimum insurance requirements or greater. There are many different types of insurance, at competitive rates, so shop around for the best price. Be aware that once insured, if you miss a payment on your policy, your insurance could be cancelled, without notice.

1. Kentucky requires each driver to carry third party liability insurance, also called PLPD, accidental benefits coverage, and uninsured and unidentified driver’s coverage, which insures you, in case you injure someone, cause a death, or damage someone’s property in a motor vehicle accident.

In Kentucky, you must have third party liability insurance for bodily injury with each person allowed $25,000.00, up to maximum of $50,000.00, as well as an additional $10,000.00 for property damages. If there are more than two people injured, whoever files first gets the settlement.

2. In Kentucky, you must carry your driver’s license and proof of insurance, which has not expired, in your motor vehicle. If you driver’s license has been suspended, or your insurance has expired, your vehicle could be towed to the compound by the police. You driver’s license can also be suspended if you owe back child support.

Important facts about auto coverage in Kentucky:

• Your driver’s license can be suspended, if you are caught driving without adequate insurance, with too many fines, or driving while under the influence of alcohol or refusing to take a blood-alcohol test, and leaving the scene of an accident or failing to file an accident report. Seat belts are not mandatory in Kentucky, but motorcycle helmets are.
• You are required to change your driver’s license, if you move, within seven days.
• Your insurance agent has access to your driving record to check for fines, suspensions, and accidents that can cause your policy to increase or be cancelled.
• If you are in an accident, and do not have the minimum insurance, you are financially responsible for all injury and damage settlements awarded by the courts.

Comprehensive or collision insurance does NOT meet minimum requirements.

For a sum total $25,000? Is this how it works, or do they reinburse my insurance co the $9000, then have the 25K to work with pain and suffering?

Question: Where's the best place to get minimal auto insurance coverage in Kentucky?
I'm looking for insurance on an old 1986 nissan 300zx I got a quote for around 100 a month which I think is high considering I have full coverage on a new car for 120 so any suggestions? BTW the type of car isn't being a factor bc a 1992 toyota corolla was higher on the quote than the 300zx? Any places besides progressive online would be great. I don't want to be paying more in per year than the danged car is worth! The type of car didn't matter in this case (being a sports car) because the rate for a family car was quoted as more.

Answer: I'd say go for the best deal you get, because when it comes to the crunch you have the same rights by law, regardless of who you are with. Question: Started insurance agency in Kentucky - need ideas...?
I opened an independent insurance agency in Kentucky recently. I hired a licensed producer to help me solicit auto, home & life insurance. I also hired a tele-marketer to call leads for new business. With a limited budget, how could I attract more people to call us for free insurance quotes? We represent the biggest and best insurance companies for auto, home and life insurance. Our rates are crazy-competitive for Kentucky residents...we just need to find a way (despite the cold weather) to get people to call or email us for free quotes. We are legally able to quote insurance for any resident in Kentucky. We will have a website up and running in the next few months...as soon as we find someone to help us create a solid site. As for advertising, we haven't started any system yet. We know our stuff when it comes to insurance...just need ideas to grow our client base quickly. Thanks for any ideas...

Answer: There's a pretty good book out there about marketing (in general) titled "Guerilla Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levinson or How to Drive Your Competition Crazy by Guy Kawasaki. Both are pretty good and give you some pretty good ideas. Call 1-800-WEINSURE. Ask for Patrick or Dick and tell them you want to check on their program. Pretty slick and it WILL make your phone ring. Next - network. Join the Chamber, get out and about and everyone gets a business card. Try your local "want ad papers" like Thrifty Nickel or whatever. Run some ads in "the readers" - not display ads. CHEAP CAR INSURANCE and your phone number. Join your agent association in your area - either PIA or Big I and go to conventions or insurance Expos. Even go to events in other States. I have been going to the Insurance Expo in Atlanta for the past 10-12 years and ALWAYS come back with SOMETHING! Give everyone of your customers several of your cards. Write THEIR name on the back and have them give them to their friends and have their friends come to your office for for quotes. When they come in with the card, put the card in a box and every quarter, give away a color TV or something nice. Take pictures of you giving the winner the remote control, hang the picture somewhere prominent and do the same thing over again.
