"Being insured is the law in Maryland"
Consumers have questions and so did we...
• What are the types of insurance coverage and what are the amounts required for the state of Maryland.
• What does the law say pertaining to minimum insurance coverage in Maryland?
Maryland has strict mandatory policies about vehicle registration, insurance coverage minimums, and financial responsibilities pertaining to every vehicle owned, operated, or parked on its roadways. In Maryland, you can obtain your learner’s permit at fifteen and nine months, and your restricted license at sixteen and three months, with a full license at seventeen and nine months.
To adhere to Maryland's auto insurance rules, you must...
In Maryland, you must maintain a current insurance policy with a registered insurance company or broker carrying the minimum insurance requirements or greater. There are many different types of insurance, at competitive rates, so shop around for the best price. Be aware that once insured, if you miss a payment on your policy, your insurance could be cancelled, without notice.
1. Maryland requires each driver to carry third party liability insurance, also called PLPD, accidental benefits coverage, and uninsured and unidentified driver’s coverage, which insures you, in case you injure someone, cause a death, or damage someone’s property in a motor vehicle accident.
In Maryland, you must have third party liability insurance for bodily injury with each person allowed $20,000.00, up to maximum of $40,000.00, as well as an additional $10,000.00 for property damages. If there are more than two people injured, whoever files first gets the settlement.
2. In Maryland, you must carry your driver’s license and proof of insurance, which has not expired, in your motor vehicle. If you driver’s license has been suspended, or your insurance has expired, your vehicle could be towed to the compound by the police. You driver’s license can also be suspended if you owe back child support.
Important facts about auto coverage in Maryland:
• Your driver’s license can be suspended, if you are caught driving without adequate insurance, with too many fines, or driving while under the influence of alcohol or refusing to take a blood-alcohol test, and leaving the scene of an accident or failing to file an accident report. Seat belts are mandatory in Maryland.
• You are required to change your driver’s license, if you move, within seven days.
• Your insurance agent has access to your driving record to check for fines, suspensions, and accidents that can cause your policy to increase or be cancelled.
• If you are in an accident, and do not have the minimum insurance, you are financially responsible for all injury and damage settlements awarded by the courts.

Question: I currently contemplating starting an auto insurance business in Maryland. What is involved? I don't currently have any experience in the insurance business, I am currently in a sales position though. Would it be better to invest in a franchise or be an independent broker?
Answer: For auto insurance the easiest way to get a free quote is do a auto policy comparison. If you choose the same coverage levels, you can get an fast quote to compare against others. Use the same coverage area, car make and model, mileage and driving history to make sure you get accurate comparison. To get mulitple auto insurance quotes, go to http://www.easyautoinsuranceguide.com/Maryland-Car-Insurance.html and you can compare all the major auto insurance companies.
Question: Maryland Auto Insurance Premium for teens(19yrs)? I am 19 years old, living in Baltimore and got my driving license last week. I have a Nissan Sentra. So what would be my auto insurance premium for a year? How is it calculated?
Which are the good companies?
Answer: I use Geico insurance as a driver off my parents insurance. For the first six months of my license I paid $250/mo. After six months, I went down to $125/mo, but that also includes a Good Student discount.
Yours will be a bit higher, because you are a male and you live in Baltimore (city I'm assuming?). Also my rates are liability only.
If you go to the different websites, you can get a rate quote. I personally am happy with Geico (www.geico.com).
Progressive will compare rates for you. (www.progressive.com).
Good luck! Being a new driver hits the wallet hard.

Answer: CHECK WITH THE BOARD OF INSURANCE WHICH IS ON LINE AND THIS WAY YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE FIRST HAND ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES INCLUDING THEIR RATINGS PRICING AS WELL AS HOW THEY PAY AND TREAT CONSUMERS AND MAYBE BE ABLE TO ASSIST YOU.
THE BEST THING TO DO IS ASK AROUND YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AS WELL AS AT WORK AND SEE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE SAYING.
REMEMBER THAT WORD OF MOUTH IS ALWAYS THE BEST ADVERTISEMENT AROUND.
Question: is $100 an ok price for liability auto insurance in maryland? where can i get the best liablity auto insurance in maryland
Answer: Your rates depend on many things - driving history/record, use of vehicle, type of vehicle, age, (sometimes but not always: marital status, gender), credit score, drivers ed, other policies (multi-line discount), coverage selected, coverage limits selected. Given that we don't know any of this stuff about you - we can't really answer that. I can tell you than an agent will give you the best rate he can. You may need to shop around and see what rate other companies offer for the same coverage.
Question: how long do you have in maryland to add a new auto to your insurance? I'm being told that it's 14 days, when I thought maryland state law says 30 days?
Answer: About 1/2 of a second after you sign the docs, give up your money and get the key. Please don't get in your new purchase until you get insurance. In most states it is against the law to drive without ins.

Question: In Maryland how long does it take for an auto insurance company to pay after they go to court.? IT'S THE OTHER GUY'S FAULT,HIT ME FROM THE REAR NOW THE POLICE REPORT SAYS WHO AT FAULT BUT I WAS WONDERING WILL IT BE ON THE SAME COURT DAY OR IT'S GONNA GET DRAGGED OUT FOR MONTHS ANY LAWYER CAN SHED LIGHT ON THIS OR ANY ONE WHO BEEN IN A SIMULAR ACCIDENT THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE
Answer: Police do NOT determine fault - it's only an opinion.
If you go to court, and there's a judgement, AND THERE'S COVERAGE UNDER THE POLICY, the insurance company has 30 days to cut a check. If you have a lawyer, the check goes to your lawyer, and can sit on their desk for weeks.
If there's no coverage, then the guy who hit you has 30 days to cut a check. If he doesn't, you have to try to collect from him.
Question: Which Auto insurance is BEST for Me? I live in Maryland and I just got my learner's permit. I have to get auto insurance before I can regester my car at the MVA or I will get a penilty. I am independant, and I have no one else to really help in this catagory. is it posible to get insurance with a learner's permit? If so, how, and which company?
Answer: You may want to talk to an independent agent - as opposed to a captive agent.
A captive agent is one that sells insurance for just one company (State Farm, Nationwide, Allstate).
An independent agent is licensed to sell for several companies (although not the same companies a captive agent sells for). Independent agents will frequently sell for companies like Progressive, Hartford, Travelers. But since an independent agent has access to more companies -they can check with each and find the one that is best for you.
Good Luck.
Question: What is the average monthly cost for auto insurance I live Maryland and I'm 16
