Honda - we peaked about 10 years ago

Read cons. I will add that the same problem with head restraints and uncomfortable seats exists in the newer Accords as well. These formerly solid yet modest cars have become uncomfortable to sit in and laden with distracting gadgetry. Probably done with Hondas.

Great car

I love the car. very reliable. The suspension is starting to loosen up and rattle. No Major repairs except head gasket because I forgot to change my antifreeze. That is what caused it to blow. Easy maintenance. Would recommend this car.

Loved my 2002 Honda Civic

This car was fun to drive, comfortable for me (I am 5'3"), got great gas mileage, great maneuverability and lasted a long time. I replaced the timing belt twice and got over 226,000 miles from it, then the head gasket blew and the car over heated. If I was a mechanic, I would have done the repairs myself and driven it a while longer, but decided I had gotten my money's worth out of it. The car has a surprising amount of room in the back seat and trunk. Had a lot of road noise, although once I put some nice Michelin tires, it was a lot better. I should have done that sooner. Passengers in the back seat were not as comfortable as in the front, and it was noisier. In the summer, I would turn off the A/C if I had to accelerate up hill.

2002 Honda Civic SI

I like the interior room and relative reliability. The car has 230K miles on it. I don't care for the higher weight, poorer handling, high oil consumption and modest gas mileage. The car has used oil at the rate of 1,000 to 1,500 miles/qt. It does not handle or ride as well as my previous '89 Civic SI. The engine is geared just as short as the '89, at 3,000 revs/mile despite being 25% larger, but is hardly any quicker to 60 than the '89. Steering feel is nowhere near as good as the un-assisted '89. Curb weight is is 20% higher too. Surprisingly, gas mileage is worse too. Even w/ Michelin Pilot tires, stopping distances are poor. The brakes are undersized for the weight. My '89 w/ 250K miles w/ the original drums and rotors, the '02 has gone through 4 sets of front rotors and should have had at least one more as the shudder on stopping was bad.

Great car for commuting.

For the price, this is a great economy car with plenty of comfortable passenger space. Instruments are easy to read and the stereo is awesome, with controls on the steering wheel. Would recommend to any commuter or college student. No regrets.

Recall Notices

2017 Honda Civic (4/26/2018)

Campaign Number: 18V266000
Component Name: AIR BAGS
Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
Description: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. Driver and front passenger seatback pads sold as replacement service parts were made without slit openings for the seat-mounted side air bags. In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the seatback pad would interfere and adversely affect air bag performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."
Defect: If the seat-mounted air bags cannot not deploy correctly in the event of a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury.
Corrective Action: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front seatback pads, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin June 1, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is E1D, U1B, and X1C.
