2009-2011 Ford F-150 Ratings, Reviews and Analysis

America has had a love affair with Ford F-series full-size pickups since 1948, making it the longest-running American made vehicle model. As of model year 2013, the F-150 has also enjoyed the honor of being the most popular American made truck. This is because Ford makes them with quality, although there have been some fits and starts and growing pains over the years.

There have been a number of times throughout the years that the automotive press has decried some shortcomings they found with the F-150 they were reviewing. Usually, these shortcomings were in the power department. Basically, even though the engines that Ford engineers were putting in the F-150 were comparable in size to those being put in their competition, they were seriously underpowered. Because of this lack of power, the trucks didn't accelerate as fast as the competitors' trucks did and they didn't have the same towing capacity. However, they were Ford F-150s and people still bought them.

Worst vehicle purchase I've ever made.

Engine failed after two months. Warranty repair took nearly ten months and two dealers to diagnose and repair. The engine died due to oil starvation and the warranty repair included reinstalling old OIL STARVED engine components. Ran great for two months and began to rattle/knock at idle. Also burning approximately 1/2L of coolant per week. Dealer says everything is OK, no comment when questioned about coolant loss or engine rattle. Fuel economy dropped to 8mpg recently. Overall the worst vehicle purchase I have made.

Mileage fair rides great plenty of room looks good sounds great throttled up with throttle body spacer and cold air intake dash display fair but newer models look much better and having the rear locker would be nice replacing front shocks ow costly

Ford makes a great truck

This is a TRUCK. Ford makes a quality vehicle overall, and even with the minor interior quality issues I had I would buy it again and recommend it highly. Ford trucks are made to be used as trucks, even the pretty ones. I loved my truck.

The best all around vehicle on the road.

I need a vehicle that will handle a variety of situations. My F150 dresses up for special events, drives comfortably across the country, or climbs muddy mountains and hauls tools and firewood for me. Better gas milage would be a plus but I'm happy.

Dislikes, I can't find a ford pick up that has a sensible price range for a single home income thats suitable for me. I wish there where car dealers would see this hurrdle that some of us single move have to endure.

Description: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Ford F-150 trucks manufactured August 19, 2011, to March 9, 2012, 2012 Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator vehicles manufactured August 19, 2011, to December 19, 2011, and 2012 Ford Mustang vehicles manufactured August 19, 2011, to February 21, 2012. The affected vehicles are equipped with an automatic transmission that may unexpectedly downshift to first gear, regardless of vehicle speed.
Defect: An unexpected downshift into first gear can cause the vehicle to slow down suddenly without warning and the rear tires may slide or lock, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module with updated software, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices were mailed to owners on June 20, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S19.

Description: FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 FORD F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, EDGE, AND LINCOLN MKX TRUCKS MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 25, 2010, THROUGH NOVEMBER 20, 2010. THESE VEHICLES WERE INSPECTED USING INTEGRATED DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (IDS) THAT HAD A CUSTOM SOFTWARE ROUTINE TO READ THE SUSPECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) SERIAL NUMBER. BASED ON THE SERIAL NUMBER THE BCM WAS EITHER NOT AFFECTED OR REPLACED. THE CUSTOM SOFTWARE ROUTINE WAS NOT READING THE CORRECT SET OF CHARACTERS, AND WAS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY A BCM THAT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AFFECTED BCMS MAY HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT.
Defect: IF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT DEVELOPS, AN OVERHEATING CONDITION MAY OCCUR WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE.
