Good design but poor thought put into keeping the engine cool.

Constantly fixing something on it. I look at every car just like it and around same year and every dash board has curled up. Everyone complained about overheating problems. It does have a comfortable drivers seat and controls in easy reach.

Best car ever

Got this car five years ago at 107,000 miles. We're up to 178 now and I couldn't be happier with how she's lasted. Never had any issues until we hit 150. Then the motor mount snapped and took out the water pump. She needed new struts at 175 and will have the wheel hubs replaced soon, but she still runs great. The only complaint I've ever had is the radio was pretty ugly (easy fix) and the mirrors stick out too much and can't be folded in. After the third time I came out of work and saw someone had hit the mirror off, I ended up getting ones that folded to replace it (was only $30 more than the regular ones at my parts store). I've driven three Chevy's from the same year, Toyotas, Mazdas, Fords...this is by far my favorite to drive. I've beaten quite a few Camaros, Mustangs, etc off stop lights in this baby. Runs so, so smooth, handles great. Isn't the best car in the snow; if there's 1/4" or more, I'm not going anywhere. Overall, fantastic car, would buy another in a heartbeat if Pontiac was still around.

Recall Notices

2005 Pontiac Grand Am (7/3/2014)

Campaign Number: 14V400000
Component Name: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
Description: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Defect: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective Action: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14350.
